The Five Purposes of Our Church
The purpose
of this congregation shall be to glorify God through
joyful worship, encouraging the body of believers, serving others,
understanding Scripture, and sharing Christ with the world.
oyful
Worship... We worship God through song,
prayer, and personal testimony led by the
Praise
Team. God's Word teaches that, "When
you come
together, everyone
has a hymn, or a word of
instruction,
a revelation,
a tongue or an interpretation"
(1 Cor. 14:26).
encouragement
for Believers... We encourage
each other through personal relationships,
special events, and potlucks. We also
encourage one another by carrying "each
other's
burdens" (Gal.
6:2), praying for each other (Col. 1:10),
and spurring "one
another on toward love and good
deeds" (Heb. 10:24)
ervice
to Others... We work side by side at our
annual Service Day and throughout the year by
looking for opportunities to serve our
neighbors.
"For
we are God's workmanship, created
in Christ
Jesus
to do good works..." (Eph. 2:10). We also meet
needs
through the Benevolence
Fund, support of the
Irving
Park Community Kitchen, the Irving Park Food
Pantry, and other special activities.
understanding
Scripture... We teach God'sWord
through sermons, Children's
Church, small group
Bible studies, and our Kids' Klub program.
We
want to be like the early Christians who put
an
emphasis on
understanding Scripture. As Col 3:16
says, "Let the Word of Christ
dwell in you richly
as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom..."
haring
Christ with the World... Jesus commanded
us to:
Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them..." (Matt. 28:19-20). We financially
support
a
number of evangelical ministries: Great Commission
Ministries, Good News Prison
Ministry, New Life
for Girls, and CareFirst.
